What is the difference between a vacation and a retreat?
A vacation is when you take a retreat from your boss. A retreat is when you take a vacation from yourself. If you are your own boss, then the Ultimate Reality is close at hand. However, if you are still working for your Self, there's no end to it. One of the great paraphrases from the Vijñana Bhairava, a 7th century Kashmiri text, is: STOP! (Dharana 66, Verse 89, Jaideva Singh) You could do this right now. Or, alternatively, you could go on retreat, or on vacation. Or postpone it till next year. Or not. It is already stopped anyway, so there is really nothing left to do. Happy Vacation. Or Happy Retreat. Or both. Information about upcoming retreats with Joan back to Miscellaneous Meanderings |
