In the biblical story of Adam and Eve, there is a pivotal moment when self-consciousness arises. Before eating the fruit, the first couple is naked and unashamed—whole, at ease in being. But upon tasting the forbidden fruit, their eyes are opened. They recognize their nakedness, feel exposed, and move swiftly to cover themselves. This marks the birth of a distinct sense of self—of separateness, individuality, or “I”-ness.
In this practice of yoga nidra, we gently explore the same terrain: the emergence of identity and the subtlety of its dissolution. There may be glimpses of the spaciousness of being just prior to “I,” where nothing is missing and wholeness simply is.
